Goan Fish Curry

Method

  1. Take the pomfret darnes in a bowl, add salt, turmeric powder and lemon juice, rub these all over the darns, and set aside for 10 minutes to marinate.
  2. Put scraped coconut in a grinder jar, add dried red chillies, green chillies, ginger, garlic, coriander seeds, black peppercorns and ¾ cup water and grind to a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan, add onion and sauté till golden brown. Add the ground paste, mix and sauté till oil separates.
  4. Add 1½ cups water and salt, mix well and let it come to a boil. Lower the heat, add fish darnes, cover and cook for 5-6 minutes. Add coconut milk and cook for 1 minute more.
  5. Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot with red rice.
