With the recognition of being an important commercial pulse of the world, soya beans are coming into many kitchens around the world. Soya beans are said to control blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, regulate the bowels and relieve constipation. Besides the popular tofu or beancurd, the beans are also fermented and used to make flavouring pastes and condiments, notably the Japanese soy sauce or shoyu and miso and the Indonesian tempeh.

Ingredients for Soyawadi Aloo Recipe

  • Soya Nuggets soaked in hot water 1/2 cup

  • Potatoes peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes 2 medium

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Onion chopped 1 large

  • Ginger chopped 1 inch pie

  • Tomatoes chopped 2 large

  • Coriander powder 2 teaspoon

  • Cumin powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 1/2 teaspoon

  • Carrot cut into 1 inch pieces 1 medium

  • Green peas 1/2 cup

  • Yogurt, whisked 1/2 cup

  • Garam masala powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Heat a pressure cooker. Add oil and cumin seeds, onion and ginger. Sauté on medium heat for 8-10 minutes. Add tomatoes, sauté till soft.

Step 2

Add coriander powder and cumin powder. Sauté for 1 minute. Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder and mix.

Step 3

Add carrot, potatoes, soya nuggets, green peas and mix. Add yogurt and mix well. Add 1 cup water. 

Step 4

Add garam masala powder and fresh coriander leaves and mix. Add salt and mix again.

Step 5

Put the cooker lid and place whistle in place. Allow to cook till 2-3 whistles are released.

Step 6

Lower heat and cook for 10 minutes. Take cooker off the heat.

Step 7

Let the cooker cool and pressure released. Open lid and serve hot.
