  • 4 tablespoons Yogurt full fat
  • 2 teaspoons Red chilli powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 Lemon
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 1 large Tomato
  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 6-8 Black peppercorns
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 2 Green cardamoms
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander powder
  • 2 teaspoons Cumin powder
  • 3 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • for garnish Fresh coriander sprigs


  1. Take chicken pieces in a bowl, add yogurt, red chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder and ginger-garlic paste. Squeeze the juice of ½ lemon into the bowl and mix well. Set aside for 30 minutes.
  2. Finely chop onion and tomato.
  3. Heat butter in a deep pan, add black peppercorns, bay leaf, green cardamoms and cloves and sauté till fragrant. Add onion and saute till golden brown.
  4. Add tomato and salt, mix well, cover and cook till the tomato turns soft and pulpy.
  5. Add coriander powder and cumin powder, and mix well. Add marinated chicken, mix and sauté on high heat 4-5 minutes.
  6. Add coriander leaves and 2½ cups water and mix well. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Add garam masala powder and mix well. Cover and cook till the chicken is cooked completely.
  8. Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprigs and serve hot.
