A favourite with the vegetarians, paneer made from milk is quite common, especially paneer recipes are quite popular in the Indian subcontinent. You can make it fresh, chhena – an another version or just use the ones that are readily available in the market to prepare everything from simple snacks, curries, sabzis, mithais, desserts and the likes. An ingredient that can be relished in the raw form too – try serving it as a starter just sprinkled with a little chaat masala, black salt and chilli powder!

Ingredients for Paneer Do Pyaza - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Paneer (cottage cheese) cut into 1 inch cubes 300 grams

  • Onion quartered and layers separated 1 medium

  • Onion paste 1 1/2 cups

  • Ghee 3 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Cloves 3-4

  • Cinnamon 1 inch stick

  • Green cardamoms 3-4

  • Green chillies slit 3

  • Ginger paste 1/2 tablespoon

  • Garlic paste 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh tomato puree 1 cup

  • Red chilli powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Paneer Masala 2 teaspoons

  • Yogurt whisked 3/4 cup

  • Salt to taste

  • Dried fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi) 3/4 teaspoon

  • Lemon juice 2 teaspoons

  • Onion rings for garnish

  • Lemon Wedges for garnish

  • Fresh coriander sprigs for garnish


Step 1

Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon stick and green cardamoms, and sauté till fragrant.

Step 2

Add onion puree and sauté till lightly colored. Add green chillies, mix well and sauté for 2-3 minutes or till the onion turns golden.

Step 3

Add ginger paste and garlic paste, mix and sauté till the raw flavors disappear.

Step 4

Add tomato puree, mix well and sauté for 3-4 minutes or till oil separates.

Step 5

Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, Paneer Masala and 4 tbsps water. Mix and sauté for 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

Add yogurt, mix and sauté for 3-4 minutes. Add salt, and mix well.

Step 7

Add paneer and mix gently. Add onion dices and dried fenugreek leaf powder mix well.

Step 8

Drizzle a little water and mix well. Cook for 1-2 minutes. Switch the heat off.

Step 9

Add lemon juice and mix gently.,

Step 10

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with onion rings, lemon wedge and coriander sprig.

Step 11

Serve hot.
