Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Keema Pattice Recipe

  • Mutton Mince 500 grams

  • Potatoes 4 tablespoons

  • Oil 1 tablespoon + for greasing and deep-frying

  • Ginger-garlic-green chilli paste 1 tablespoon

  • Onion finely chopped 1 medium

  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Cumin powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • Nutmeg powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Green peas boiled 3-4 tablespoons

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon

  • Potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed 3 medium

  • White bread slices 2

  • Egg 1

  • Breadcrumbs 1/2 cup

  • Cornflour 2 tablespoons


Step 1

Heat one tablespoon oil in a pressure cooker, add ginger-garlic-green chilli paste and sauté till fragrant.

Step 2

Add onion and sauté till it turns translucent. Add mutton mince, mix and sauté on high heat.

Step 3

Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder and nutmeg powder. Mix and cook on high heat for three to four minutes.

Step 4

Add salt and mix well. Add one-fourth cup of water, mix, put the lid on and cook under pressure till two whistles. Reduce heat and cook further for fifteen minutes.

Step 5

Remove lid, place the cooker on heat and add peas, coriander leaves and lemon juice and mix well. Cook on high heat till the moisture evaporates. Remove from heat and cool down to room temperature.

Step 6

Mix potatoes, two tablespoons refined flour and salt in a bowl. Soak bread slices in water, squeeze and add. Mix well.

Step 7

Break egg into another bowl, add salt and beat well.

Step 8

Spread breadcrumbs on a plate. Mix remaining refined flour and cornflour and spread on another plate.
