Ingredients
- 1½ cups fresh pigeon peas (taza toovar dana)
- 4 white bread slices
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1½ teaspoons chopped ginger
- 3-4 garlic cloves
- 2 green chillies, chopped
- ¼ teaspoon garam masala powder
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves
- Butter for cooking
- Black sesame seeds to sprinkle
- Tomato ketchup for serving
Method
- Transfer fresh pigeon peas into a grinder jar, add cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, green chillies, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, salt, sugar and 2-3 tablespoons water and grind to a coarse paste.
- Transfer the paste into a bowl, add onion and coriander leaves and mix well.
- Place the bread slices on worktop and apply the pigeon pea mixture evenly on each slice.
- Heat a non-stick tawa. Add butter and once it melts, place the bread slices on it. Sprinkle black sesame seeds and cook on medium heat for 4-5 minutes.
- Flip, drizzle some more butter around the bread slices and cook the other side for 3-4 minutes.
- Cut each bread slice into 4 triangles, arrange them on a serving platter and serve hot with tomato ketchup.
