Bafuri

Ingredients

  • 1 cup split Bengal gram, soaked for 6-8 hours and drained
  • 8-10 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch ginger, roughly chopped
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil + for greasing
  • 2-3 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 2-3 teaspoons white sesame seeds
  • 10-15 curry leaves
  • 2-3 dried red chillies, diagonally sliced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves + to sprinkle

Method

  1. Put split Bengal gram into a grinder jar, add garlic, ginger, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, salt and ½ cup water and grind to coarse paste.
  2. Heat sufficient water in a steamer.
  3. Grease the steamer plate with some oil, place small portions of the ground dal mixture on it, place it in the steamer and steam for 10-15 minutes. Bring the steamer plate out and set aside to cool.
  4. Heat oil in a shallow non-stick pan, add green chillies and white sesame seeds and mix well.
  5. Add curry leaves and mix well. Add dried red chillies, mix well and sauté for 30 seconds.
  6. Add steamed dumplings, sprinkle salt and add coriander leaves and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Transfer into a serving bowl, sprinkle coriander leaves and serve hot.
