Ingredients
- 1 cup split Bengal gram, soaked for 6-8 hours and drained
- 8-10 garlic cloves
- 1 inch ginger, roughly chopped
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil + for greasing
- 2-3 green chillies, finely chopped
- 2-3 teaspoons white sesame seeds
- 10-15 curry leaves
- 2-3 dried red chillies, diagonally sliced
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves + to sprinkle
Method
- Put split Bengal gram into a grinder jar, add garlic, ginger, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, salt and ½ cup water and grind to coarse paste.
- Heat sufficient water in a steamer.
- Grease the steamer plate with some oil, place small portions of the ground dal mixture on it, place it in the steamer and steam for 10-15 minutes. Bring the steamer plate out and set aside to cool.
- Heat oil in a shallow non-stick pan, add green chillies and white sesame seeds and mix well.
- Add curry leaves and mix well. Add dried red chillies, mix well and sauté for 30 seconds.
- Add steamed dumplings, sprinkle salt and add coriander leaves and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Transfer into a serving bowl, sprinkle coriander leaves and serve hot.
