Ingredients list for Masala For Masala Dosa

  • 4 Potatoes
  • 2 Onions
  • 4 Green chillies
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 piece Ginger
  • 8 tablespoons Gingelly oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Split Bengal gram (chana dal)
  • 10-12 Curry leaves
  • 12 Cashewnuts
  • 1/4 cup Coconut scraped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 cup Green peas
  • 4 Whole dry red chillies
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Poppy seed (khuskhus) paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fennel seeds (saunf)


  1. Boil the potatoes till completely cooked, cool, peel and cut or mash into small cubes. Peel onions and slice it. Wash and slit the green chillies, wash and chop the tomatoes and ginger. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil, fry the ingredients for masala powder, cool and grind to a coarse powder.
  2. Heat the remaining oil, temper with mustard seeds, chana dal and curry leaves. Add the green chillies, ginger, cashew nuts and onions. Sauté for about 5 minutes. Add the coconut and continue. Now sprinkle the asafoetida, salt and the turmeric powder. - See more at: http://www.s
  3. Stir well. Add the tomatoes and fry over high heat, add the green peas and the powdered masala. Add the potato, sprinkle some water and cook till everything combines well and the potato starts breaking up. Remove from heat and keep aside.
