Favourite seafood? Prawns, prawns and more of prawns. A wide variety of small crustaceans, tiny relatives of the lobster, are known as prawns. Prawns are normally translucent when raw but get their distinctive pink or red colour on being cooked. one word of caution – if buying unpeeled prawns, smell for freshness and look for bright, shiny shells that have some spring left in them.

Ingredients for Prawns Ghee Roast - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Medium prawns shelled, deveined, washed and patted dry 400 grams

  • Ghee 3 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Dried red chillies 4-5

  • Coriander seeds 1 tablespoon

  • Cumin seeds 1 tablespoon

  • Cloves 6-8

  • Black peppercorns 8-10

  • Garlic 8-10 cloves

  • Tamarind pulp 1 tablespoon

  • Yogurt whisked 3 tablespoons

  • Jaggery chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Curry leaves 10-12 + to garnish


Step 1

Take prawns in a bowl, salt and turmeric powder and mix well.

Step 2

Dry-roast dried red chillies in a non-stick pan and transfer into a bowl. Dry roast coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cloves and black peppercorns in the same non-stick pan till fragrant.

Step 3

Transfer all the spices into a grinder jar. Add garlic, tamarind pulp and sufficient water and grind to a smooth paste.

Step 4

Heat ghee in the same non-stick pan, add the ground paste, mix and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

Step 5

Add yogurt, mix and cook for 1 minute. Add salt and mix well. Add the marinated prawns and mix well. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes.

Step 6

Add jaggery, mix and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add curry leaves, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Step 7

Transfer into a serving dish, garnish with curry leaves and serve hot.
