Ingredients
- ¾ cup barnyard millet (samo)
- 1 cup chopped pineapple
- 1 cup milk
- ¼ cup ghee
- 2-3 tablespoons chopped mixed nuts (almonds and cashewnuts) + for garnish
- A large pinch of saffron + for garnish
- ½ teaspoon green cardamom powder
- 1 cup sugar
- Blanched, peeled, and slivered pistachios for garnish
Method
- Bring 1 cup water and milk to a boil in a deep non-stick pan. Set aside.
- Heat ghee in another deep non-stick pan, add barnyard millet and saute for 2-3 minutes.
- Add pineapple, mix and continue to saute for 2-3 minutes. Add mixed nuts, mix well and continue to saute for 1 minute.
- Add the water-milk mixture, saffron strands and green cardamom powder and mix till well combined. Cover and cook for 6-8 minutes.
- Add sugar, mix, cover and cook till it melts completely.
- To serve, sprinkle some pistachios, mixed nuts and saffron st rands in a measuring cup or bowl. Fill it up with sheera and spread it evenly. De-mould on a serving plate and serve.
