Ingredients list for Urad Dal - SK Khazana
- 1 cup Split black gram skinless (dhuli urad dal)
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Red chilli powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Coriander powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Cumin powder
- to taste Salt
- 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves chopped
- Tempering
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Ghee
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida
- 1-2 Green chillies chopped
- 7-8 Curry leaves
- 1/2 Red chilli powder
- to garnish Fresh coriander sprig
Method
- Take Urad Dal in a large bowl, wash it 2-3 times with sufficient water.
- Put the dal into a pressure cooker, add sufficient water, cover the cooker and cook under pressure till 3-4 whistles are given out. Allow the pressure to be released completely.
- Transfer the cooked dal into a non-stick pan, add ½ cup water, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and salt, mix well and let the mixture come to a boil.
- Add lemon juice and coriander leaves and mix well. Take it off the heat.
- Heat ghee in a non-stick tempering pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add asafoetida, green chillies, curry leaves and red chilli powder and mix well.Add the tempering to the prepared dal and cover the pan immediately.
- Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot.
