And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Piri Piri Pakoras Recipe

  • Potatoes with skin 2-3 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Gram flour (besan) 1 cup

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon

  • Baking soda ¼ teaspoon

  • Oil for deep-frying

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped for garnishing

  • Spice mix

  • Onion powder 1 teaspoon

  • Garlic Powder 1 teaspoon

  • Paprika 1 teaspoon

  • Dried oregano ½ teaspoon

  • Stock cubes crushed 1 tablespoon

  • Cinnamon powder a pinch

  • Red chilli flakes 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Powdered sugar a pinch


Step 1

Thinly slice potatoes into a bowl of water. Add salt, mix and set aside.

Step 2

Mix together gram flour, chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and sufficient water to make a thick batter. Add baking soda and mix.

Step 3

To make the spice mix, take onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, crushed stock cube, cinnamon powder, chilli flakes, salt and powdered sugar in a bowl and mix well.

Step 4

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 5

Dip the potato slices, one by one, in the batter and deep-fry in hot oil till golden. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 6

Sprinkle the prepared spice mix over them and mix lightly.

Step 7

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve immediately.
