Ingredients list for Dal Khichdi Cassarole
- ½ cup Moong dal dhuli, soaked
 - 1 cup Rice soaked for 30 minutes
 - ½ cup Mozzarella cheese grated
 - 1 tablespoon Ghee
 - 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
 - 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
 - 5-7 Curry leaves
 - 1-2 Green chillies halved and slit
 - 1 tablespoon Garlic chopped
 - ¼ teaspoon Asafoetida
 - 1 medium Onion finely chopped
 - 1 medium Tomatoes finely chopped
 - to taste Salt
 - ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
 - 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves chopped
 
Method
- Preheat oven to 180° C.
 - Heat ghee in a non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add cumin seeds, curry leaves and green chilies and sauté for 10 seconds. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
 - Add asafoetida and sauté. Add onion and sauté till translucent. Add tomato and mix. Add salt, mix and cook till tomato turns soft and pulpy.
 - Add turmeric powder and mix. Add drained rice and drained dal and mix. Add 1 tablespoon coriander leaves and mix. Add 3 cups water, mix, cover and cook till rice is ¾done.
 - Transfer the rice mixture into a glass baking dish, spread cheese and remaining coriander leaves on top. Put the casserole into the preheated oven and bake till the cheese melts.
 - Serve hot.
