Ingredients list for Tariwale Chane

  • 1 cup Brown Chane brown and soaked overnight
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato
  • 3 medium Tomatoes halved
  • 1 inch piece Ginger
  • 2 Green chillies
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • a pinch Asafoetida
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garam masala powder

Method

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Finely chop tomatoes. Roughly chop ginger, green chillies and coriander leaves and grind them coarsely in a mixer.
  2. Add cumin seeds and the ground paste to the cooker, add a little water and sauté for a while. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and asafoetida and mix well.
  3. Add the soaked chana and salt and mix well. Add tomatoes and cook till they soften.
  4. Add 2 cups water and close the cooker with the lid. Cook under pressure till 5-7 whistles.
  5. Open the lid when the pressure reduces, add garam masala powder and mix. Serve hot.
