Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Keli Chana - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Dried white peas soaked for 6-8 hours 1 1/2 cups

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Bay leaves 2

  • Ginger chopped 1 teaspoon

  • Garlic chopped 1 teaspoon

  • Green chillies slit 1-2

  • Medium onion sliced 1

  • Coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Roasted cumin powder 1 teaspoon

  • Red chilli flakes 1/2 teaspoon

  • Chives 3-4 + to garnish

  • Kitchen king masala 1 teaspoon

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Cabbage shredded 1/4 cup

  • Fresh red chillies 1-2 to garnish


Step 1

Take a pressure cooker, add white peas, turmeric powder, salt and 3 cups water, mix and let the mixture come to a boil. Cover with the lid and cook under pressure till pressure is released 2 times.

Step 2

Heat oil in non-stick pan, add bay leaves, ginger, garlic and green chillies, mix and sauté for 1 minute. Add onion, mix and sauté till golden brown.

Step 3

Add coriander powder, roasted cumin powder and red chilli flakes and mix. Cut chives with scissors into the pan, mix and saute for 1 minute.

Step 4

Add cooked white peas and mix. Add salt and kitchen king masala and mix well. Add coriander leaves mix well.

Step 5

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with shredded cabbage, fresh red chillies and chives and serve hot.
