Mushroom Matar Masala

Mushroom and green peas cooked in spicy creamy gravy. This can be served with roti, phulkas or any Indian bread. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients 

  • 12-16 button mushrooms , halved
  • 2-3 tablespoons Ggeen peas (matar) , boiled
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 large onion , finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 large tomato , finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup tomato puree
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  •  Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 2 tablespooons fresh cream + to garnish 
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Method

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a non-stick pan, add onion and sauté till golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste, mix and sauté till fragrant.
  2. Add tomato, mix and saute till the tomato turns soft and pulpy. Add tomato puree, mix and cook for a minute.
  3. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder and coriander powder and mix well. Add a little water, mix well and saute for 1 minute.
  4. Add yogurt, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add mushrooms and salt, mix well and cook for a minute. Add some more water, mix, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes. Add green peas, mix well and cook for a few seconds.
  5. Add garam masala powder, mix well and cook for a minute. Add cream, mix well and cook for a few seconds.
  6. Transfer into a serving bowl, drizzle a little cream, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
