Ingredients list for Masala Chicken

  • 750 grams Chicken cut into bite sized pieces on the bone
  • 4-5 Green chillies
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 8-10 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 Large onion chopped
  • 1 cup Tomato puree
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves chopped
  • to garnish Fresh coriander sprig


  1. Put green chillies, ginger, garlic in a blender jar, add a little water and grind it into a smooth paste.
  2. Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds and saute till their colour changes.
  3. Add onion, mix and sauté till translucent. Add the ground paste, mix well and saute till the mixture turns golden and dry.
  4. Add tomato puree, ½ cup water and salt, mix well and cook till it comes to a boil. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and garam masala powder, mix well and sauté for 2 minutes.
  5. Add 1 cup water and mix well. Add chicken, mix well, cover and cook till chicken is cooked completely. Add coriander leaves, adjust salt, mix and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot.
