Ingredients list for Langar ki Dal - SK Khazana
- 3/4 cup Whole black gram (sabut urad) soaked for 4 hours and drained
- 1/2 cup Split Bengal gram (chana dal) soaked for 4 hours and drained
- to taste Salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons Ghee
- 2 teaspoons Cumin seeds
- 1 inch Ginger finely chopped
- 3 Small onions finely chopped
- 2 Green chillies slit
- 2 Medium tomatoes finely chopped
- 1/2 cup Fresh coriander leaves chopped
- 2 teaspoons Coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
- 2 teaspoons Garam masala powder
- to garnish Fresh coriander sprig
Method
- Put whole black gram, split Bengal gram, salt, 1 tsp turmeric powder and 5 cups water in a pressure cooker and mix well. Cover and cook under pressure till 4-5 whistles are given out.
- Heat ghee in a deep non-stick pan, add cumin seeds and sauté till they begin to change colour. Add ginger and onions and sauté till light golden.
- Add green chillies, mix and saute for 2 minutes. Add tomatoes and salt and saute till tomatoes are pulpy.
- Add ¼ cup coriander leaves, remaining turmeric powder, coriander powder and chilli powder, mix and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the cooked grams and mix well. Add garam masala powder and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Add remaining coriander leaves and mix well.
- Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot garnished with coriander sprig.
