Ingredients
- 1½ cups broken wheat (dalia/lapsi), soaked
- 1 small carrot, grated
- 1 small green capsicum, seeded chopped
- 2 tablespoons oil
- ¼ teaspoon mustard seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 2 green chillies, chopped
- 15-20 curry leaves
- 2 dried red chillies, broken into large bits
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ¼ cup roasted peanuts, crushed
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Method
- Heat the oil in a non-stick kadai. Add the mustard seeds, asafoetida, green chillies, curry leaves and red chillies. When the seeds begin to splutter, add the onion and sauté till translucent.
- Add the carrot and capsicum and sauté for four to five minutes. Add the broken wheat, turmeric powder, roasted peanuts and salt and mix well.
- Add three cups of water, mix, cover and cook till the broken wheat softens.
- Add lemon juice and mix well.
- Serve hot.
