You might be picking out these emerald hued little jewels from your food. But, wait, before you do that anymore! As these are a good source of fibre and potassium, which keeps all of our body cells functioning properly. Just when you thought that green peas are only used to add that extra punch to your savoury dishes, try a rich, creamy matar ki kheer to satiate your sweet buds too!

Ingredients for Matar Aur Mangodi Ki Sabzi Recipe

  • Green peas shelled 1/4 cup

  • Green gram dumplings 1/2 cup

  • Potatoes 1/2 inch cubes 2 medium

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Asafoetida a pinch

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Coriander powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • Tomatoes chopped 2 medium

Method

Step 1

Heat one tablespoon oil in a pan, add mangodi and sauté till reddish.

Step 2

Heat the remaining oil in another pan. Add asafoetida, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, potato pieces and sauté for two to three minutes. Add salt, mix and cover.

Step 3

Cook for three to four minutes. If using green peas boil them (frozen peas too can be used, no need to boil then, just thaw them). Add coriander powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder to the potatoes.

Step 4

Stir and add tomatoes and two cups of water. Stir and add mangodi and green peas. Mix and cook covered on medium heat for ten minutes.

Step 5

Serve hot.
