  • 20-25 prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 4-5 teaspoons coarsely crushed black peppercorns
  • 2 tablespoons oil    
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped ginger
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
  • 12-14 curry leaves
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1½ tablespoons coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons freshly chopped coriander leaves
  • 4 teaspoons tamarind pulp
  • 3 tablespoons scraped fresh coconut  


  1. Heat oil in a non-stick shallow pan, add onion, ginger, garlic and curry leaves. Sauté on high heat for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder, mix well.
  3. Add prawns and salt. Toss well and add coarsely crushed black peppercorns. Add 1 tablespoon chopped coriander and mix well. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add tamarind pulp and coconut. Mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes. Take it off the heat and transfer to a serving bowl.
  5. Serve hot.
