Ingredients list for Dal Khichdi

  • 1/2 cup Split green gram skinless (dhuli moong dal)
  • 1 cup Basmati rice soaked
  • 2 tablespoons Clarified butter
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 15-20 Curry leaves
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic finely chopped
  • 3-4 Green chillies chopped
  • 3 tablespoons Arrabiata sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 3 Bay leaves

Method

  1. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker,add cumin seeds, curry leaves and onion and sauté till lightly browned.Add ginger, garlic, green chillies and sauté till fragrant.
  2. Add rice and moong dal and mix. Add Arrabiata sauce and mix well.
  3. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and bay leaves. Add 4 cups water and mix well.Close the lid and cook till 4 whistles are given out.
  4. Open the lid when pressure reduces completely and serve hot.
