Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Peanut Chaat Recipe

  • Raw peanuts shelled 2 cups

  • Chaat masala 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Sea salt 1/2 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon

  • Onion 1 medium

  • Green chillies 3

  • Tomato 1 medium

  • Roasted cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Fresh coriander leaves a few sprigs

  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Lemon 1


Step 1

If using peanuts with shell boil them in plenty of water with salt and turmeric powder for 8-10 minutes.

Step 2

Drain and shell. If using shelled raw peanuts boil them in plenty of water with sea salt and turmeric powder.

Step 3

Chop onion and green chillies in a chopper. Chop tomato finely.

Step 4

Pound roasted cumin seeds. Mix onion, green chillies, tomato in a bowl. Chop coriander leaves.

Step 5

Drain peanuts well and add to the bowl. Add salt, chaat masala, red chilli powder and juice of lemon.

Step 6

Add pounded cumin seeds and coriander leaves and mix well. Serve hot.

Step 7

You can also serve this topped with chilled yogurt.
