Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Paneer Taka Tak Recipe

  • Cottage cheese (paneer) cut into cubes 250 grams

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Large onion finely chopped 1

  • Ginger-garlic paste 1 tablespoon

  • Green chilli chopped 1

  • Medium tomato finely chopped 1

  • Red chilli powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 2 teaspoons

  • Pav bhaji masala 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Small green capsicum cut into small squares 1

  • Small yellow capsicum cut into small squares 1

  • Fresh cream 2 tablespoons

  • Cashewnut paste 1 tablespoon

  • Onion rings for garnish

  • Lemon wedges for garnish

  • Fresh coriander sprigs for garnish


Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds and saute till their colour changes. Add onion, mix and saute till translucent.

Step 2

Add ginger-garlic paste, mix and sauté till raw smell disappears. Add green chilli and tomato, mix well and saute till tomato softens.

Step 3

Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, pav bhaji masala and salt and mix well. Add some water, mix and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Step 4

Add green capsicum and yellow capsicum, mix well and cook for 5-6 minutes.

Step 5

Add fresh cream and mix well. Add cashewnut paste and mix well. Add cottage cheese cubes, toss well and cook for 4-5 minutes.

Step 6

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with onion rings, lemon wedges and coriander sprig And serve warm.
