Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Oats Khichdi without oil Recipe

  • Oats roasted 2 cups

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Black peppercorns 6

  • Onion sliced 1

  • Green capsicum finely chopped 1

  • Babycorn sliced 2

  • American corn kernels 3 tablespoons

  • Carrot finely chopped 1 small

  • Green peas 3 tablespoons

  • French beans finely chopped 4-6

  • Green chilli finely chopped 3-4

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 inch piece

  • Curry leaves 4-6

  • Fresh coriander leaves finely chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Dry roast jeera and black peppercorn.

Step 2

Add five cups water, green capsicums, baby corns, American corns, carrots, green peas, french beans, onions, green chillies,ginger, curry leaves, coriander leaves, salt and let it simmer till the vegetables are cooked.

Step 3

Add oats and salt and cook for another minute. Serve hot.
