Ingredients list for Mutton Pepper Roast Kerala Style
- 750 grams Mutton cut into 2 inch pieces on the bone
- 2 teaspoons Black peppercorns crushed
- to taste Salt
- 2 teaspoons Red chilli powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon Coriander powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Cumin powder
- 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons Coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon Garlic chopped
- 1 inches Ginger cut into thin strips
- 2 Medium onions finely chopped
- 8-10 Curry leaves
- 10-12 + to garnish Fresh coconut slices
- to garnish Fried curry leaves
Method
- Take mutton pieces in a bowl, add salt, 1 tsp crushed peppercorns, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and lemon juice, mix well and set aside to marinate for 25-30 minutes.
- Heat coconut oil in a deep non-stick pan, add garlic, ginger strips and onions, mix well and sauté till onions turn translucent.
- Add curry leaves and marinated mutton pieces, mix well and sauté on high heat for 5-6 minutes.
- Add coconut slices, salt and remaining crushed peppercorns and mix well. Add 2 cups water and mix well. Cover and cook on medium heat for 35-40 minutes or till the mutton is done.
- Transfer the mutton into a serving bowl, garnish with coconut slices and curry leaves and serve hot with malabari parottas.
