Ingredients list for Malwani Prawns

  • ½ cup Prawns (medium) shelled and deveined with tails intact
  • ½ cup Scraped coconut
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander seeds
  • 3-4 Dried red chillies
  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Malwani masala
  • 1 teaspoon Rice
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic chopped
  • ½ cup Coconut milk
  • 3-4 Kokum petals
  • to garnish Dried red chilli 1 fried

Method

  1. Put prawns in a bowl, add turmeric powder and salt, mix and set aside to marinate.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a shallow non-stick pan. Add coriander seeds and sauté till fragrant.
  3. Break red chillies and add to the pan and sauté for a minute. Add half the onion and sauté till golden.
  4. Add coconut, mix and roast for 30 seconds. Switch off heat and add rice.
  5. Grind this mixture with some water to a fine paste.
  6. Heat remaining oil in another non-stick pan. Add remaining onion and sauté on high heat till golden.
  7. Add garlic and sauté till golden. Add ground paste, mix and cook for a minute.
  8. Add marinated prawns, mix and cook for a minute. Reduce heat, add Malwani masala and mix well. Add some water, mix and cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
  9. Add coconut milk and mix well. Add kokum petals, mix and cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes.
  10. Serve hot garnished with a fried dried red chilli.
