Green Masala Steamed Fish

Ingredients list for Green Masala Steamed Fish

  • 6 pieces Basa fillets
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves chopped
  • 10-12 Fresh mint leaves chopped
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 1 cup Fresh coconut scraped
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Crushed black peppercorns
  • 3 teaspoons Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 5-6 Curry leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 5-6 Banana leaves

Method

  1. Combine coriander leaves, mint leaves, lemon juice, coconut, salt, crushed peppercorns and 1 teaspoon oil in a grinder jar and grind into a smooth paste.
  2. Transfer the ground paste into a bowl. Add fish and mix well. Set aside to marinate for a few minutes.
  3. Heat remaining oil in a non-stick pan. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves and let the seeds splutter.
  4. Add turmeric powder and mix well.
  5. Place each marinated fish piece on a banana leaf and pour the flavoured oil on top of them. Fold from all sides and secure with toothpicks.
  6. Heat sufficient water in a steamer. Place the fish packets in it, cover and steam for 5-7 minutes.
  7. Serve hot.
