Method

  1. Put split red lentils into a pressure cooker, add 3 cups of water, salt, turmeric powder and tomato, cover the cooker with its lid and cook under pressure for 2 whistles. Open the lid once the pressure settles completely.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a deep pan till it begins to smoke. Cool slightly, add cumin seeds and once they change colour, add dried red chillies and sauté for a few seconds.
  3. Add cooked dal, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes
  4. Add coriander leaves and mix well.
  5. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot with steamed rice.
