Pour sufficient water over it so that the pressed rice is well dampened. Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and green chillies and sauté for a minute. Add onion and a little salt and mix well, cover and cook till the onion turns golden brown. Add turmeric powder and a little water and mix well.
