Ingredients for Mutton Pepper Roast Kerala Style Recipe

  • Mutton cut into 2 inch pieces on the bone 750 grams

  • Black peppercorns crushed 2 teaspoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Red chilli powder 2 teaspoons

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1 tablespoon

  • Cumin powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon

  • Coconut oil 3 tablespoons

  • Garlic chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Ginger cut into thin strips 1 inches

  • Medium onions finely chopped 2

  • Curry leaves 8-10

  • Fresh coconut slices 10-12 + to garnish

  • Fried curry leaves to garnish

Method

Step 1

Take mutton pieces in a bowl, add salt, 1 tsp crushed peppercorns, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and lemon juice, mix well and set aside to marinate for 25-30 minutes.

Step 2

Heat coconut oil in a deep non-stick pan, add garlic, ginger strips and onions, mix well and sauté till onions turn translucent.

Step 3

Add curry leaves and marinated mutton pieces, mix well and sauté on high heat for 5-6 minutes.

Step 4

Add coconut slices, salt and remaining crushed peppercorns and mix well. Add 2 cups water and mix well. Cover and cook on medium heat for 35-40 minutes or till the mutton is done.

Step 5

Transfer the mutton into a serving bowl, garnish with coconut slices and curry leaves and serve hot with malabari parottas.
