Be a kid or a teenage or an adult or an oldie, chicken lovers trend all over the world at all times! One meat that is a favourite of all beyond belief! When cooked, it can be presented in many guises. Sauté it, fry it, toss it, bake it, steam it – eat it the way you want to. Whatever its form may be upon being cooked, its flavour may change but its flesh remains high in protein, low in fat and can be digested easily.

Ingredients for Murgh aur Masoor ki Dal - Sk Khazana Recipe

  • Chicken cut into 2 inch pieces on the bone 750 grams

  • Whole masoor dal soaked for 1 hour and boiled with salt and turmeri 1 cup

  • Onions medium, sliced 2

  • Yogurt 2-3 tablespoons

  • Garlic cloves crushed 8-10

  • Ginger crushed 1 inch

  • Oil 3 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1/2 tablespoon

  • Cumin powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Light green chillies slit 4

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 2 tablespo for garnish

  • Ginger cut into thin strips 1 inch+ for garnish

  • Desi ghee 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Quartered onions to serve

  • Lemon wedges to serve


Step 1

Heat a deep non-stick pan on medium heat, add chicken, onions, yogurt, garlic and ginger. Increase heat to high. Add 1½ tbsps oil, cumin seeds, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and cumin powder and mix well. .

Step 2

Add ½ cup water, 3 green chillies and 1½ tbsps oil sauté on high heat for 4-5 minutes.

Step 3

Reduce heat, cover the pan and cook for 10-15 minutes or till the chicken is almost done. Add boiled whole maoor dal and mix well.

Step 4

Add coriander leaves, ginger strips and desi ghee. Add about ½ - ¾ cup water to adjust the consistency, mix well. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander, remaining green chillies and ginger strips and serve hot with chapattis or phulkas or steamed rice.
