Ingredients list for Masala Mangodi Kadhi

  • 750 grams Mutton 1½ inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Coriander seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Cumin seeds
  • 4-5 Cloves
  • 1 inches Cinnamon
  • 4 Bay leaves
  • 5-6 Red chillies Dried
  • 4 tablespoons Oil
  • 2 Onions Medium
  • 8-10 Garlic cloves
  • 1 inches Ginger
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut desiccated
  • 3-4 1 inch stick Potatoes medium
  • 2 Tomatoes chopped
  • as required Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Goda masala

Method

Dry roast coriander and cumin seeds in a non-stick pan.  Add cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves, red chillies and roast till fragrant.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker.  Slice onions and add and saute till translucent. Add mutton and saute on high heat for 5-7 minutes.

Cool the roasted spices and put into a mixer jar.  Add garlic, ginger, desiccated coconut and a little water and grind to a fine paste.

Add this paste to the mutton in the cooker and mix well.  Add potatoes, 1 cup water and tomatoes. Rinse the mixer jar with 1 cup water and add.

Add salt and goda masala and mix well.  Put the lid on and cook under pressure till 4-5 whistles are given out.

Open the lid when the pressure reduces completely and serve hot with chapatti or roti.
