Ingredients list for Konkani Prawn Curry-SK Khazana

  • 20-24 Medium prawns shelled and deveined
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 3 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander seeds
  • 10-12 Black peppercorns
  • 6-8 Dried red chillies
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon Rice
  • 1/2 cup Fresh coconut scraped
  • 1 Medium onion finely chopped
  • 1 Medium raw mango peeled and cut into wedges
  • 1/2 tablespoon Tamarind pulp
  • for garnish Fresh coriander sprig


  1. Put prawns in a bowl. Add salt and turmeric powder, mix well and set aside to marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon coconut oil in a non-stick pan. Add coriander seeds, peppercorns and red chillies, mix and sauté till fragrant.
  3. Blend together 1 tablespoon chopped onions, rice, coconut and roasted spices with sufficient water to a smooth paste.
  4. Heat remaining coconut oil in a deep- non-stick pan. Add onion and sauté till lightly browned.
  5. Add marinated prawns and mango, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add prepared paste, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add sufficient water and mix. Add tamarind pulp and salt, mix well, cover and cook till fully done.
  7. Garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot with red rice.
