Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Jain Bread Cutlet Recipe

  • White bread slices 6-8

  • Oil for shallo for greasing

  • Turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • White sesame seeds 1 tablespoon

  • Green chillies finely chopped 1-2

  • Sugar 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Lemon juice 1 teaspoon

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 1 tablespoon


Step 1

Discard the edges of bread slices. Roughly chop the breads and transfer in a bowl. Add little water and crush it completely.

Step 2

Add turmeric powder, garam masala powder, sesame seeds, green chillies, sugar, salt, lemon juice and coriander. Mix well and knead into a soft dough.

Step 3

Grease the sides of heart shaped cookie cutter with oil, place a portion of dough on a worktop and cut out heart shaped cutlet using the cookie cutter. Similarly prepare the rest.

Step 4

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Place the cutlets and shallow-fry on low heat till both sides are crisp and brown. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 5

Serve hot along with tomato ketchup.
