Ingredients
- 4 medium potato unpeeled
- 1½ cups gram flour (besan)
- ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep-frying
- Chaat masala to sprinkle
- Date and tamarind chutney to serve
- Green chutney to serve
Method
- Take gram flour in a large bowl, add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, carom seeds, salt and sufficient water and whisk to make a semi-thick batter of coating consistency.
- Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
- Slice the potatoes, using a slicer, directly into the batter and mix till all of them are well coated.
- Slide in each slice into the hot oil and deep-fry till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
- Transfer them onto a serving plate and sprinkle chaat masala on top. Serve hot with date and tamarind chutney and green chutney.
