Ingredients
- 500 grams Surmai fish fillet, cut into 1½ inch pieces
- Juice of ½ lemon
- Salt to taste
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- ½ cup yogurt
- 1 egg
- Oil for deep-frying
- Chaat masala for sprinkling
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
- Lemon wedges for garnishing
Method
- Put fish pieces on a plate. Add lemon juice and salt and rub well. Set aside to marinate for 5-10 minutes.
- To prepare marinade, mix together gram flour, ginger-garlic paste, carom seeds, chilli powder, salt, yogurt and egg in a bowl.
- Put the marinated fish pieces in the marinade and mix till well coated. Set aside to marinate for 30 minutes.
- Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Drop the marinated fish pieces and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper, sprinkle chaat masala and mix well.
- Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves and lemon wedges.
