Ingredients list for Akki Roti

  • 2 cups Rice flour
  • 1 Medium onion finely chopped
  • 4 tablespoons Fresh coconut scraped
  • 2-3 Green chillies finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Carrot grated
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 tablespo to shallow fry Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves chopped


  1. Boil 2 cups water in a non-stick pan. Meanwhile, take rice flour in a bowl, add onion, coconut, green chillies, carrot, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, 1 tbsp ghee and cumin seeds.
  2. Add salt and remaining ghee to the boiling water and mix well. Add required amount of boiling water to the rice flour mixture and mix well. Knead into soft dough, add coriander and mix well.
  3. Heat a non-stick tawa. Keep a plastic sheet on the worktop and grease it with a little ghee, place a portion of the dough over it, place another plastic sheet over it and tap lightly with finger tips to make a roti.
  4. Place the roti on hot tawa and cook, turning sides and applying a little ghee, till golden brown on both sides. Make more rotis with the remaining dough.
  5. Place them on a serving platter and serve hot.
