Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Uralai Chops Recipe

  • Potatoes peeled 2 medium

  • Curry leaves 10-12

  • Green chillies finely chopped 2

  • Garlic paste 2 tablespoons

  • Ginger paste 1 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Oil 3 tablespoons

  • Rice flour 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Slice potatoes into roundels. Parboil the potato roundels with a little turmeric powder and 2 cups water.

Step 2

Mix together green chillies, garlic paste, ginger paste, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and 3 tbsps oil and mix well.

Step 3

Add rice flour and mix well to make a paste.

Step 4

Add salt and parboiled potatoes and mix well so that all the potato slices are well coated with the masala.

Step 5

Keep the mixture aside for some time.Heat oil in a non-stick pan.

Step 6

Add the potato slices and curry leaves and shallow fry, turning sides, till they become golden and crisp.

Step 7

Drain on an absorbent paper and serve hot.
