Ingredients for Moong Matar ki Khichdi Recipe

  • Whole green grams (sabut moong) , soaked overnight 3/4 cup

  • Green peas , shelled 3/4 cup

  • Rice , soaked for ½ hour 1 1/2 cups

  • Pure ghee 3 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Cinnamon 1 inch

  • Black peppercorns 10-12

  • Cloves 10-12

  • Carom seeds (ajwain) 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Green chillies 2

  • Ginger 1 inch

  • Garlic cloves 5-6

Method

Step 1

Heat a rice cooker on cook mode and add 3 tbsps ghee. When it gets heated, add cumin seeds, cinnamon, black peppercorns, cloves and carom seeds, mix and saute till fragrant.

Step 2

Add green grams, 1 cup water, salt and green chillies.

Step 3

Coarsely crush together ginger, garlic and green peas in a hand blender and add to the cooker.

Step 4

Drain and add rice and mix well. Add 6 cups water, cover and cook till done.

Step 5

Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
