Ingredients list for Moong Matar ki Khichdi

  • 3/4 cup Whole green grams (sabut moong) , soaked overnight
  • 3/4 cup Green peas , shelled
  • 1 1/2 cups Rice , soaked for ½ hour
  • 3 tablespoons Pure ghee
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 10-12 Black peppercorns
  • 10-12 Cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon Carom seeds (ajwain)
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 Green chillies
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 5-6 Garlic cloves

Method

  1. Heat a rice cooker on cook mode and add 3 tbsps ghee. When it gets heated, add cumin seeds, cinnamon, black peppercorns, cloves and carom seeds, mix and saute till fragrant.
  2. Add green grams, 1 cup water, salt and green chillies.
  3. Coarsely crush together ginger, garlic and green peas in a hand blender and add to the cooker.
  4. Drain and add rice and mix well. Add 6 cups water, cover and cook till done.
  5. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
