Imli Chawal

Ingredients list for Imli Chawal

  • 4 tablespoons Tamarind (imli) pulp
  • 3 cups Cooked rice (cooked with salt and turmeric powder)
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Split Bengal gram
  • 1 teaspoon Split skinless black gram
  • a large pi Asafoetida
  • 10-15 Curry leaves
  • 2 Green chillies finely chopped
  • 2 Dried red chillies broken into large pieces
  • 1/2 cup Roasted peanuts crushed
  • 1 teaspoon Roasted sesame seeds
  • to taste Salt

Method

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add mustard seeds, split black gram and Bengal gram, mix and sauté till the grams turn golden brown. Add the asafoetida, curry leaves, green chillies and red chillies, mix and sauté till fragrant.
  2. Stir in tamarind pulp and a little water, mix and cook till the mixture thickens.
  3. Add rice, peanuts, sesame seeds and salt and mix gently.
  4. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
