Ingredients for Bread Manchurian Recipe

  • Bread slices cut into squares 4-5

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 cup

  • Cornflour/ corn starch 1/2 cup

  • Crushed black peppercorns to taste

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 1 tablespo + to shallow fry

  • Medium onion cubed and layers separated 1

  • Ginger-garlic paste 1 tablespoon

  • Soy sauce 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Green chilli sauce 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Red chilli sauce 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Vinegar 2 tablespoons

  • Sugar 1 teaspoon

  • Green chillies sliced diagonally 1-2

  • Medium green capsicum diced 1

  • Spring onion greens sliced for garnish

Method

Step 1

Mix together refined flour, cornflour, crushed peppercorns and salt in a bowl, add sufficient water and whisk to a smooth batter.

Step 2

Heat some oil in a non-stick pan.

Step 3

Dip bread squares in the batter, place in the pan and shallow-fry, turning sides, till golden brown on both sides. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in another non-stick pan. Add onion and sauté till translucent. Add ginger-garlic paste, mix and sauté for a minute.

Step 5

Add soy sauce, green chilli sauce, red chilli sauce and vinegar and mix well. Add sugar, crushed peppercorns, salt, green chillies and capsicum, mix and bring to a boil.

Step 6

Add fried bread squares and toss well.

Step 7

Garnish with spring onion greens and serve hot.
