Ingredients list for Besan Cheela with Paneer

  • Stuffing
  • 1/2 cup Cottage cheese (paneer) grated
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 2 Medium onions finely chopped
  • 2-3 Green chillies chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red chillies powder
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves chopped
  • to taste Salt
  • Cheela
  • 2 cups Gram flour (besan)
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Carom seeds (ajwain)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves chopped
  • to cook Oil
  • to serve Tomato ketchup

Method

  1. To make the stuffing, heat oil in a non-stick pan, add onion and green chillies, mix and sauté till translucent.
  2. Add red chilli powder and mix well. Add cottage cheese and coriander leaves and mix well. Add salt and mix well. Take the pan off the heat.
  3. To make cheela batter, take gram flour in a bowl, add, red chilli powder, carom seeds, baking soda, asafoetida, salt and coriander leaves. Add sufficient water, little by little and whisk to make a smooth semi-thick batter.
  4. For each cheela, heat a little oil in a non-stick pan, pour a ladle of batter, spread it evenly and cook till the underside is done. Flip and cook till the other side is similarly done.
  5. Flip it again, place a portion of the stuffing on the cheela and fold it in half. Transfer it onto a serving plate. Make more cheelas similarly.
  6. Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
