Ingredients
- ½ cup split black green gram with skin (chilkewali urad dal), soaked for 2 hours and drained
- 5 tablespoons ghee + to drizzle
- 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
- 2 teaspoons chopped ginger
- 1 green chilli, chopped
- ½ teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
- ½ cup rice, soaked for 15 minutes and drained
- A pinch of turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
Method
- Heat 3 tablespoons ghee in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and once they start to change the colour, add ginger, green chilli, asafoetida and sauté for 1 minute.
- Add rice, urad dal, turmeric powder, salt and mix well.
- Add 3½ cups water and mix well. Cover with the lid and cook on medium heat till 4-5 whistles are released.
- Open the lid once the pressure settles completely. Mix well. Add remaining ghee, ¼ cup water and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes more.
- Transfer in a serving plate, drizzle ghee, garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot.
