Moong Dal Halwa

A traditional sweet dish popular in North India and Rajasthan, moong dal halwa is a rich dish made with dhuli moong dal cooked with ghee, sugar and milk. Dates make it nutritious which you can consume without any guilt.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Dry roast split skinless green gram in a non-stick pan till golden brown. Set aside to cool completely. Then transfer into a grinder jar and grind coarsely.
  2. Heat ghee in a shallow non-stick pan, add semolina and ground green gram, mix and sauté till golden brown.
  3. Add 2 cups hot water, mix well cover and cook on medium heat for 6-8 minutes.
  4. Put dates into a grinder jar, add ¼ cup water and grind to a fine paste.
  5. Add the dates paste to the green gram mixture and mix well. Add green cardamom powder, mix well and cook for 6-8 minutes.
  6. Add cashewnuts, almonds and pistachios and mix well.
  7. Transfer into a serving bowl and garnish with silver varq. Sprinkle pistachios and almonds on top and serve.
