Ingredients
·2 cups soaked and drained split red lentils (masoordal)
·2 medium onions (kanda)
·2 tbsps oil
·1 tsp mustard seeds
·1 tsp cumin seeds
·A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
·2 green chillies, chopped
·A sprig of curry leaves
·Salt to taste
·1 medium tomato, chopped
·½ tsp turmeric powder
·1 tsp red chilli powder
·½ tsp garam masala powder
·2 tsps kandalasun masala
·2 tbsps chopped fresh coriander leaves
·Fresh coriander sprig
·Rice bhakri for serving
Method
1.Chop onions finely.
2.Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds and once they begin to splutter, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, green chillies, curry leaves, onions and salt, mix and sauté for 2 minutes.
3.Add ginger-garlic paste, mix well and sauté till onions turn golden brown.
4.Add tomato, mix well and saute for 3-4 minutes or till oil separates.
5.Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and garam masala powder and mix well.
6.Add masoordal and mix well. Add1½ cups water and mix. Cover with a lid and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes.
7.Add kandalasun masala, mix and cook for 2 minutes. Add coriander leaves and mix well.
8.Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot with rice bhakri.
