Kachcha Chivda

Ingredients

  • 2 cups puffed rice (kurmura/murmura)
  • 2 cups thin pressed rice (patla poha)
  • 3-4 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup roasted chana dal (daliya dal)
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • ½ cup fried peanuts
  • 2 tablespoons green chilli thecha
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
  • ¼ teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Mixture of chopped onion and chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Method

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Take the pan off the heat and allow to cool completely. 
  2. Take puffed rice in a parat, add pressed rice, onion, daliya dal, coriander leaves, fried peanuts, green chilli thecha, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, roasted cumin powder and salt. Add the cooled oil-mustard seeds mixture and mix gently till everything is well combined.  
  3. Transfer onto individual serving plates, sprinkle onion and fresh coriander leaves and serve immediately.
