Ingredients
- 1½ cups rice flour
 - 1½ teaspoons red chilli powder
 - Salt to taste
 - 1 tablespoon white sesame seeds
 - ¼ cup soaked split pigeon peas
 - ½ teaspoon asafoetida, mixed with 2 tablespoons water
 - Oil for deep frying
 
Method
- Take rice flour in a large bowl, add red chilli powder, salt, white sesame seeds, soaked pigeon peas and asafoetida and mix well. Add ¾ cup water and mix to make a soft dough.
 - Grease your palms, take a portion of the dough, place it on a greased banana leaf, spread with your fingers and shape it into a thin disc. Similarly make more discs.
 - Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Gently slide in the discs, one at a time, and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
 - Arrange the vadai in a serving bowl and serve.
