Ingredients list for Prawn Thoran

  • 1 kilogram Prawns peeled and deveined
  • 500 grams Coconut sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper powder
  • 2 cups Scraped coconut
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 piece Ginger finely chopped
  • 4 Green chillies finely chopped
  • 8-10 Curry leaves
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala powder

Method

  1. Dry roast turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, pepper powder in a non stick pan on low heat for a minute.
  2. Add this powder to the coconut and mix well.Heat oil in a non stick pan. Add mustard seeds.
  3. Once they splutter, add shallots, ginger, green chillies and curry leaves. Sauté till onions are soft.
  4. Add prawns and sauté on high heat for four to five minutes.
  5. Add salt and mix well.Add one fourth cup water.
  6. Cover with a lid and cook on medium heat till prawns are three fourth done.
  7. Add coconut mixture, garam masala powder.
  8. Cover and cook till prawns are completely cooked. Serve hot.
