You might be picking out these emerald hued little jewels from your food. But, wait, before you do that anymore! As these are a good source of fibre and potassium, which keeps all of our body cells functioning properly. Just when you thought that green peas are only used to add that extra punch to your savoury dishes, try a rich, creamy matar ki kheer to satiate your sweet buds too!

Ingredients for Matar Paneer Recipe

  • Green peas , blanched 1 cup

  • Cottage cheese (paneer) 250 grams

  • Onions 2 medium

  • Tomatoes 2 medium

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Ginger-garlic paste 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Coriander powder 1 tablespoon

  • Cumin powder 2 teaspoons

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Garam masala pwoder 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Roughly chop onions and tomatoes, put into a mixer jar and grind to a fine puree.

Step 2

Cut the cottage cheese into medium cubes.

Step 3

Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds and sauté till their colour changes.

Step 4

Add ginger-garlic paste and onion-tomato puree, mix well and sauté on high heat for 2-3 minutes.

Step 5

Add cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and salt and mix well.

Step 6

Add ¾ cup water, mix, cover and cook on high heat for 4-5 minutes. Switch off the heat and open the lid when the pressure is completely released.

Step 7

Switch on the heat, add cottage cheese and green peas, mix well and cook for 30-40 seconds.

Step 8

Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
